Our global pro bono commitment
As a leading global law firm, we recognize our unique ability to advance UN Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. As stated by the UN, conflict, insecurity, weak institutions and limited access to justice remain a great threat to sustainable development. We are committed to promoting the rule of law and increasing access to justice through our long-standing pro bono program.
Our distinguished pro bono history derives primarily from our profound sense of professional and moral obligation to increase access to justice and help under-represented clients and nonprofits otherwise unable to access legal support.
Eversheds Sutherland lawyers are encouraged to provide pro bono legal services as a part of their well-rounded practice. This expectation of service is supported by billable hour credit and attorney review policies that include pro bono as a factor in promotion and bonus eligibility, with specific criteria varying by region. Pro bono work is both rewarding and essential to the professional development of our lawyers.
Moving together to support WaterAid
Global Running Day is an annual campaign where all of our people band together to raise funds and awareness for WaterAid’s mission. We share the belief that clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are a basic human right and should be a normal part of daily life for everyone, everywhere. Over the years our people have run, walked, biked and wheeled thousands of miles, and raised tens of thousands of dollars, in celebration of the good work of our partners at WaterAid.

Stepping Up to the Plate for Food Banks
In response to a surge in need for food donations around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdowns, our Step Up to the Plate challenge asked our people to commit to walking, running, biking or wheeling 10km and donating $10/£10/€10 (or local equivalent) to their local food bank. In true Eversheds Sutherland fashion, thousands joined in and we raised $40,000 to increase food access around the world.
Underpinning all we do
We are proud to be a participant in the UN Global Compact and to support the ten principles and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the Compact. This is a public pledge of our commitment to being a responsible business and will help us to evaluate our progress through annual reporting to the UN.
