Protecting our planet by reducing our environmental impact and promoting the conservation of natural resources
We are committed to promoting the conservation of natural resources, preventing environmental pollution and continuously improving our environmental performance. Practical steps like committing to use renewable electricity in our offices wherever possible, reducing paper usage and other initiatives will help us reach our environment goals of cutting all avoidable emissions and becoming a Net Zero business by 2050 or sooner.

Our Net Zero commitment
Our goal is to be a Net Zero business by 2050 or sooner by reducing our avoidable emissions as quickly as we can. Given the world’s pressing need to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and limit global warming, we want to achieve Net Zero well in advance of 2050.
We will take a science-based approach to setting targets and measuring our progress against these, in line with best practice.
Making a commitment to renewable electricity
We have committed to use 100% renewable electricity across our UK portfolio, where practical, by 2025 in support of the Legal Renewables Initiative. Currently, eight of our UK offices use renewable energy, as well as our offices in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Luxembourg, Berlin, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Munich and Paris. We buy Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for all electricity consumed in the US.

Reducing paper use for sustainable performance
By offering digital solutions to our colleagues and clients, we have cut the amount of paper purchased, used and disposed of across our global operations. We have integrated paperless workflows into everyday office processes, while DocuSign enables fee-earners and clients to digitally share, amend and sign legal documents. When there is no alternative, FSC-certified paper is our default.
Underpinning all we do
We are proud to be a participant in the UN Global Compact and to support the ten principles and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the Compact. This is a public pledge of our commitment to being a responsible business and will help us to evaluate our progress through annual reporting to the UN.
